The Australasian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD) is Australasia’s largest independently owned training provider. Established in 2015, the college has quickly become the number one choice for Optical Dispensing training across New Zealand and Australia.

ACOD delivers the industry accredited HLT47815 Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing New Zealand course, through a combination of online and face to face training. Throughout the duration of the course, students will learn theory and practical skills and attend four separate workshops of four days each in Auckland. The course is currently available and open for enrolment throughout the year, with the flexibility to structure learning across an 18 to 24 month program.

The Australian College of Optometry (ACO) offers a comprehensive education program to support optometrists to maintain and improve their professional knowledge and skills in order to provide the best possible care for patients and their communities.

The ACO’s flagship programs include extended certificate courses in ocular therapeutics; public health and leadership in eyecare; children’s vision; glaucoma; and contact lenses. NZ Laser Training Institute was established in 2011 after recognising the industry needed an independent, professional, and expert education provider for cosmetic Laser and intense pulsed light (commonly known as IPL). Director, Ruth Nicholson is an NZQA qualified adult tutor with more than 20 years of relevant industry experience, including eleven years of developing and teaching Laser and IPL to beauty and medical aesthetics professionals - her goal is to ensure laser safety and laser science is well understood, and that best practice is upheld, protecting the public and ensuring operators of laser and IPL devices receive the best education and guidelines, coupled with expert support learners career success.

In 2021 we launched an IPL safety programme for Dry Eye Procedures, it provides specific safety information that references the AS/NZS safety standard, and recognised industry best practices for use of IPL. The content covers the specific use of the IPL device by Optometry and Ophthalmology for the treatment of Dry Eye disease. Learning is self-guided online over approx. 12 hours and upon completion includes a Letter of Attainment, Electronic Certificate and CPD points. The programme is fully accredited by the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board of New Zealand and upon completion Optometrists can apply for CPD points allocation: 1.2 clinical diagnostic credits and 0.8 general credits.

We sell IPL Safety Glasses as well as disposable IPL Eye Shields which block out the wavelengths, energy and extremely bright lights generated from IPL devices. They are soft, flexible, hypoallergenic and latex-free. They are certified as a European Class 1 medical device, meet IPL ISO std 12609-1:2013-07 and are registered as an FDA Class 1 medical device.
